Beyel Brothers, Inc., Gulf Coast Branch debuts in Bay
St. Louis, MS. Beyel Brothers was recently awarded a project to offload from rail and transport fourteen pressure vessels to support the new A-3 Test Stand in Stennis Space Center. Due to low weight bridges surrounding Stennis Space Center the project proved to have several obstacles. Beyel decided rather than using a dolly and girder systems to transport the vessels, that we would save our customer time and money using conventional goldhofer. This allowed Beyel Brothers to display their ingenuity and negotiating skills. The only other route into Stennis Space Center was a forty seven mile trek which included I-10 and a low overpass, which was too low for the vessels to pass underneath. Beyel incorporated several months of planning with state and local officials to improve a median crossing on I-10 that would support a prime mover and eighteen lines of goldhofer trailer. Once Beyel reached the median crossing local and state authorities would temporarily close the west bound lane of I-10 so Beyel crews could travel east bound nine miles in the west bound lane to by-pass the low overpass.
Three of the fourteen vessels were fabricated in Mesquite, TX in a fab shop with cramped quarters. Beyel used laminated mats to build a temporary road outside of the fab shop to get the vessels out of the building. Beyel utilized eighteen lines of goldhofer to travel the streets of Mesquite, TX. Along the route to the nearest rail head was a 52’ bridge that could not withstand the weight. Beyel utilized sixty foot bridge jumpers to assure there was no weight applied to the bridge. Beyel safely transported and loaded the three vessels valued at over 10.5 million dollars without incident.
Beyel Brothers Gulf Coast Branch is currently serving the entire Gulf Coast and Mid-West Region.
